Which coffee machine should you choose?

Filter, manual espresso or automatic: decide by your mornings, available space and cleaning routine.

Start with how you drink coffee

A large cup to share and a short espresso call for different machines. Note how many cups you make, when you make them and whether several people use the machine in succession.

A slower ritual can be enjoyable. If you leave early, cleaning time matters as much as brewing time.

Measure the space and the work

Check the width, depth and clearance needed to fill the tank or remove the tray. A narrow front can still need space around it.

De’Longhi lists the Dedica Style EC685.BK as 15 cm wide. It suits a small counter, but you need to dose and prepare the coffee yourself.

Three formats, three habits

The Moccamaster KBG Select makes filter coffee in a 1.25 l glass carafe, with a selector for half or full batches. It suits several cups.

The De’Longhi Dedica Style EC685.BK is for making espresso by hand in a compact space. The Philips Series 3300 LatteGo EP3347/90 makes several drinks from beans and has a milk system; it requires more parts to be filled and cleaned.

Count the full routine

Add coffee, possible filters, water, descaling and accessories to the machine price. Check spare parts and the care instructions for the exact model.
