Choosing headphones when you wear glasses

Glasses arms, the headband and your coat collar can change headphone comfort within minutes.

Pressure points

With glasses, the ear cushions press against the arms and the headband may add pressure on top of your head. Slight discomfort at first can become annoying after a commute.

Weight alone does not predict comfort. The shape of the arms, clamping force and cushion material matter too.

Try them with your usual outfit

Wear your usual glasses and a collar similar to your coat. Move your head, adjust the headband and keep the headphones on for a few minutes before deciding.

If you often wear headwear, check the available room too. Around the neck may be more practical than over the ears for some occasions.

When earbuds are simpler

Earbuds leave the glasses arms clear and take up less room in your bag. Their trade-off is the fit of the tips and how securely they stay in your ears.

The choice depends on which discomfort you want to avoid: pressure on glasses from headphones, or contact and fit inside the ear from earbuds.
